Behind The Scenes: The LANE Editorial in NYC – Love Nostalgia…

The LANE Bridal Editorial in NYC: Love Nostalgia.

I’ve always dreamed of shooting a LANE Bridal Editorial in NYC. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in New York recently & put together a (very last minute!) shoot with amazingly talented photographer Lauren Ross while I was there. I can’t even begin to explain how lucky we were on this shoot and how beautifully the editorial came together.

The shoot was literally thrown together just before I left for NYC. On the day, we were actually about to jump in a car and shoot in various spots in the streets of NYC but by chance I came across THE most incredible location I’ve ever seen via a film location scouting blog…an hour before the shoot. Our team of course thought I was crazy but being the optimistic (crazy) person I am, I had to try my luck. I happened to catch the property manager just as he was about to catch a train out of town & persuaded him to let us shoot there! Long story short, we wound up in the most incredible, dilapidated building in lower Manhattan. It was hauntingly beautiful. The deserted building built in 1882 was a dream location with beautiful textured walls, peeling paint, stunning arch windows, cast iron railings, a glass atrium and a rooftop overlooking the city. I was completely in awe of this stunning building and it’s grandeur. (My imagination was running wild, dreaming up all sorts of styling ideas for an extravagant wedding reception by candlelight at dusk in this building!)

We photographed some of the most divine Monique Lhuillier & vintage gowns in this editorial. The extravagant dresses, exagerrated silhouttes and luxurious fabrics contrasted perfectly with the raw, historic surroundings. I could not have asked for a more perfect model than the stunning Shanay Hall for this shoot (orignally from Perth, Australia). The shots were captured in such an free, organic way with very little direction. We strolled around this amazing building & I just let Lauren & Shanay get caught up in the moment. It was magic.

A huge thankyou to my amazingly talented friend Lauren Ross who photographed the shoot. The pictures are far more stunning than I can try to describe, it’s definitely my favourite LANE shoot & I’ve been dying to share these pics…

Karissa x

PS – I tried my hand at editing a (very rough!) behind the scenes video from our shoot! Take a look… x
